BEST LANDING SPOTS FOR BILL BELICHICK

Belichick

Dallas Cowboys
Former New England coach Bill Belichick has been making his rounds regarding the interview process. Belichick has met with the Falcons, and per sources, there is a mutual interest where he could potentially land in Atlanta. The only caveat with the ATL situation is the fact that the Falcons don’t have solid play and experience at the quarterback position.

After the departure of Brady leaving the Patriots in 2020, it was clear that Belichick couldn’t maintain his winning track record due to inconsistent play at the QB position, particularly after drafting Mac Jones in the 1st round back in 2021. Jones has been inconsistent and a disappointment in New England, especially due to an abundance of turnovers and poor decision-making on the field. Belichick clearly will have a better chance at another Lombardi trophy if he goes to a team with an already established QB, particularly out west with Justin Herbert and the Chargers.

We all know the Los Angeles Chargers have their sights set on Jim Harbaugh, who played for the Chargers back in 1999-2000. With that being said, I believe that L.A. is the best landing spot for Bill, and not just because of the great weather and delicious tacos out west. The Chargers have a loaded roster of talent, not to mention a future Hall of Famer at the QB position provided he stays healthy.

The biggest issues (besides injuries) I’ve seen with the Chargers is a lack of focus and discipline. Bill Belichick is all about organization, focus, and strictly football done right. Former coach Brandon Staley clearly wasn’t the right fit, and Chargers owner Dean Spanos clearly wants to win and win now. Speaking of winning, Belichick is only 15 wins away from passing the legendary Don Shula for most wins all-time in the NFL.

If Mike McCarthy is done in Dallas, that would be an interesting situation if Belichick ended up in Big D. I don’t see that happening due to all the hype and hoopla that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones attracts, especially since Jones is also the current General Manager. We all know Bill wants and needs complete control of football operations, so I don’t see a football marriage of Belichick and Jones working out.

It’s rather obvious that Belichick still has a desire to coach and to win another title without being attached to Tom Brady. I think it’s quite clear that if Harbaugh doesn’t wind up in L.A., the Chargers would be a great fit for Bill. There are still other coaching vacancies that need to be filled, so we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out. Regardless of where Belichick ends up landing, I feel the skies are the limit for him and whoever that organization may be.
