THE EMERGENCE OF THE HOUSTON ASTROS

Over the last few years, it seems like the food down in Houston isn’t the only thing that’s good and hot. The Houston Astros have been on a tear lately and clearly look like they are the frontrunners to win another title in H-Town. During a recent 10 game road trip, the Astros swept Texas, Oakland, and the Royals, outscoring all three teams 74-35. Carlos Correa and Jose Altuve have both come alive at the plate. Altuve on that road trip hit .500 (8-16).

The Astros have the best run differential in baseball (+157) and are tied with Boston for the most wins in MLB thus far. What’s even more scary for the opposition is that Houston won’t even face another team with a winning record until July 20th, when they go into a series vs the Angels. Let’s not forget about DH Evan Gattis who’s been lighting it up at the plate, hitting .366 w/ 5 HR’s and 19 RBI’s during that road trip.

The Astros supporting roster of pitchers have thrown well, including Justin Verlander, Charlie Morton, Dallas Keuchel, and Lance McCullers. Skipper A.J. Hinch has kept the Astros focused and his ball club’s play has exemplified that. As crazy as it sounds, Houston has been flying under the radar as of late with all the talk surrounding the Yankees, Redsox, and Braves. Shoutout to the Braves as well who’ve been a pleasant surprise, but when it comes to surprises, the Astros clearly aren’t one. I believe they’ll be back in the World Series again this fall but there’s still a lot of baseball yet to be played.
