THE KIRK COUSINS EFFECT WITH THE ATLANTA FALCONS

The recent acquisition of Kirk Cousins by the Atlanta Falcons certainly made sense in many ways, particularly with a new head coach and the NFC South being one of the weakest divisions in the league.

Newly hired head coach Raheem Morris certainly wants to get the Falcons back on track and Cousins seems to be a great choice (provided he can stay healthy). Kirk Cousins always seems to find ways to get his team on the winning track, despite some skepticism around the league regarding his play.

Kirk Cousins has a record of 77-70-2 all time, but let’s also keep in mind that six of those seasons were spent in Washington. (Need I say more) Cousins is only 35 years old, but he’s also coming off an Achilles injury. Since he’s never really been a mobile QB that runs around a lot, I believe the injury won’t impact his play this coming season.

The Falcons are a young team with a lot of speed and athleticism, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Wide Receiver Drake London will benefit enormously from Cousins in addition to Bijan Robinson and TE Kyle Pitts. Last year even without a reliable QB, the Falcons still were on the verge of winning the NFC South division despite their inconsistent play behind center.

I honestly believe that Atlanta has the best chance to win the NFC South, especially if they can stay healthy. The Saints don’t seem to have an identity with Derek Carr, the Carolina Panthers are clearly rebuilding, and the Buccaneers are aging fast but still have a punchers chance in that division.

Cousins signed a four-year deal worth $180 million, with $100 million guaranteed, including a $50 million dollar signing bonus. That’s a lifetime of lettuce on millions of sandwiches.

It also works out that Cousins has landed in the ATL due to the fact his wife’s family is from that area, and they’ve spent a lot of time in Georgia during the offseason the past few years. Cousins has indicated that he wants to retire as a Falcon. Speaking of Falcons, let’s just sit back and see how high Captain Kirk can lead this Falcons team in regards to soaring to new heights.
